Good Tex-Mex is hard to find in this area. Thankfully, we have the Austin Grill. The food is out of this world. I'd heard about the small restaurant chain before, but it wasn't until I read the review in the Washington Post that I tried it. The tortilla chips are light and crispy and the tomato salsa is refreshingly sweet and mild. For an appetizer four of us split two of the quesadilla's, the crabmeat and the spinach & portabella mushroom. Both were unbelievable. The crab quesadilla is worth the trip by itself. The spinach & portabella just melts in your mouth. If that wasn't enough, I still had the main course to come. I had a combo platter with a fajita chicken soft taco, a beef barbacoa enchilada, and a chicken tamale. Of course this was served with a side of refried beans, and spanish rice. The only complaint I had was the rice was average. The soft taco was great, the enchilada was delicious, and the tamale was perfect. I usually don't like refried beans, but I'll make an exception in this case. They were just right and tasted just a bit of bacon. I've been told that the queso is the best in town and next time I go back I'm gonna be sure and try it.
